STARS
"Science, Technology and Research Students" (STARS), a program for junior high school students', seeks to identify academically promising, usually minority students, who might not otherwise choose careers in science and engineering, and acquaint them with opportunities in the science and engineering fields. The program also encourages students to take math and science courses in high school.

STARS consists of many components:

• a series of field trips which include lectures and hands-on learning activities,
• three-day workshops in which students construct an electronic device or mechanical model, such as a solar powered car or hovercraft, or participate in an actual science enrichment course work given on campus at the George Washington University.
